Culebrita Island

Culebrita Island, a small, uninhabited gem off the coast of Culebra, offers a taste of a secluded paradise. As part of the Culebra Nature Reserve, this island has pristine beaches, vibrant marine life, and a historic lighthouse.

Accessible only by boat, (check our water taxis available in EXPLORE)  Culebrita is a short journey away from the bustling crowds. The main beach, Tortuga Beach, is a horseshoe-shaped haven of white sand and crystal-clear waters. Known for its turtle nesting and feeding activities, Tortuga is perfect for swimming and snorkeling.

Beyond Tortuga Beach, Culebrita offers diverse hiking trails and natural wonders. Explore the tidal pools, known as the "Jacuzzis," for a relaxing soak. These natural pools are kept warm by the Caribbean weather and almost demand that you sit and relax in them. If you’re planning to walk to the tidal pools, don’t leave behind your shoes. Part of the hike involves navigating through some unforgiving rocks.

For a more challenging adventure, hike to the historic lighthouse, built in 1886. The trail offers stunning views of Culebra, St. Thomas, and Cayo Norte. Completed in 1886, it was one of the oldest operating lighthouses in the Caribbean until it was closed in 1959. Although the hike is long, you will experience some of  Culebrita’s wildlife.

When visiting Culebrita, remember to bring essentials like food, water, and sunscreen. As a natural reserve, it's important to tread lightly, respect the environment, and avoid disturbing wildlife.

Culebrita Island is a hidden gem waiting to be discovered. With its pristine beaches, vibrant marine life, and breathtaking scenery, it's the perfect destination for nature lovers and adventure seekers alike.
